Activities - Wild camping and survival skills
Cornwall provides the perfect backdrop for learning invaluable ‘survival’ skills. We take you into the ‘back of beyond’ by open canoe and teach you the cornerstones of surviving in the wild. Depending on the activity you choose, you will have the opportunity to build your own shelters, learn fire lighting skills, explore ways to obtain food and water in the wild and learn how to navigate the natural way.
Expedition skills day
If you are looking for an outdoor activity that’s a bit different, then this is it. Our Canoe Expedition skills day typically runs from 9.30am – 4.30pm, but start and finish times vary due to the tide and conditions.
We teach you how to paddle an open canoe into the wilds of Cornwall’s rivers and backwaters. At around midday you will tie up your canoe and begin the survival skills phase of the day! This involves you lighting fires, preparing and cooking backwoods meals, discovering how to collect and prepare water. You will have the opportunity to ‘hunt’ and ‘fish’ We will then get back on the water for the trip back….testing your new skills along the way!!
Wild camping
If you’d like to learn new outdoor survival skills, or put your own skills to the test then our two-day wild camp is for you!
Typically we start at 10.00 am and finish on the next day by 12.00 pm.
Fire lighting, shelter building, water filtration, food foraging, trapping and backwoods cooking are at the core of your course. Add to this an introduction to open canoeing and an unforgettable night paddle and you have a truly memorable experience!
We will provide all of your safety equipment, dry barrels and bags for your kit, as well as food and drink for the expedition. If you want to bring extra chocolate and marshmallows to toast on the fire….then be our guest!
We specialise in progressive survival training and work with groups such Duke of Edinburgh Award candidates, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Cadets and Youth Groups on an ongoing basis to develop their individual potential and capacity.
