Activities - Coasteering Cornwall and Devon

Coasteering couldn’t be more simple – squeeze into a wetsuit, buoyancy aid, safety helmet and old trainers then scramble, climb, swim and cliff jump your way around Cornwall, Devon and the South West’s spectacular, rocky coastline. Turning rocks, cliffs, caves and waves into playthings! Jumping is not compulsory but most people like to try it. On a calm day it is possible to explore Cornish caves, when it gets rougher hold onto your hats - it can be a rollercoaster ride!

Coasteering Courses

An introduction to coasteering, that takes your group along a route involving climbing, swimming and cliff jumping. Conditions can vary from flat calm to some swell – we can’t control that – but your guides are experts and will know how to deal with whatever you encounter along the way. Coasteering is available year round depending on swell and weather conditions.

Extreme Coasteer

This is one for big wave days and experienced coasteerers. Expect plenty of action as you’re lifted up and down by the swells and have to negotiate the cliffs and caves with skill and care. You’ll need to be a strong swimmer and confident in rough seas, in return for which you can expect a truly memorable day.

Ecoasteer

Ecoasteers give you a deeper insight into the high energy and spectacular inter-tidal zone. Waves regularly batter the cliff faces and the plants and animals that live here, whilst it’s alternately flooded with water or left high and dry twice a day as the tide rises and falls – not the easiest place to make your home.
Ecoasteers provide fascinating information on what this world is all about and show you how its residents survive – bearing in mind that for a short time at least you’re one of them! But it’s not all about learning – you’ll also have a blast getting around in true coasteering fashion.

What to bring coasteering:

Courses begin at various times throughout the day, usually with a brief introduction to Back of beyond Adventures and a chance to meet your guide and the others in your group. Coasteering sessions run for approximately 2 ½ hours.

You need to bring:

  • Towel
  • Old trainers that you are happy to get wet.
  • Swimming costume to wear under your wetsuit & old shorts to wear over your wetsuit - drawstring are best, as they won't fall off when you jump!
  • Warm clothes to change into after the session.

What they say:

  • “That was the best £40 I’ve ever spent!!!”
  • “I’m shattered…but that was awesome!”
